From his earliest days, Pier Giorgio was strongly influenced by Jesuit, Salesian and Vincentian spirituality. During his college years, he grew to love the Dominican Order and made his profession as a lay member at age 21. One year earlier, he received the medal of the Angelic Militia - a sign of devotion
to St. Thomas Aquinas. As a good friend of his explained, a small group of them decided to join the Third Order because they were attracted by the uncompromising preaching of some eloquent Dominican friars.
Not just a casual joiner of anything, Pier Giorgio took his Dominican profession seriously. "He knew the Rule of the Third Order perfectly, he was diligent in attending the monthly meetings, and besides praying the holy Rosary, he recited the Little Office of Our Lady every day, ... and if for some reason he couldn’t come to our meetings, he took care to let me know and to explain the reason which, it goes without saying, was always acceptable. I admired that complete reliability of his." (Testimony of Father Enrico Ibertis, O.P.)
